(Special to The Telegram) ---Gottfried Marty, Sr., 76, died last night at his home here following a one year illness. Death resulted from hardening of the arteries and complications. Born in Berne canton, Switzerland, Jan. 13, 1867, he came to this country with his parents at the age of two. On June 7, 1889, his marriage to Mary Brock took place at Christ Lutheran church. Four years ago they celebrated their golden anniversary. After their marriage they resided on the Brock farm for 10 years, and then moved to a farm 16 miles northeast of Columbus where they continued to live until last November, when they retired and moved here. He was a life-long member of Christ Lutheran church. Surviving are his wife; five sons, Gottfried E. and Walter F., both of Columbus; Arthur H. and Otto J. of Leigh; and Emil A. of Battle Creek; five daughters, Mrs. William Johannes and Mrs. Walter Ludwig, both of Leigh; Mrs. Rudolph Wilke of Richland, Mrs. C. A. Buelow of Fresno, Calif., and Miss Irma at home; a brother Adolph of Columbus, a half-brother, Fritz Miller of Leigh; 29 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A daughter, Mathilda, and a son, Ernest, have preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the family home here, and at 2:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran church 12 miles northeast of Columbus. Rev. Martin Borneman, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Lutheran cemetery. Body will be taken from the Holmes funeral home to the family home Friday afternoon where it will lie in state until the hour of the service.
