Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Bethesda United Methodist Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Methodist Cemetery, Elgin. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin) ~~~~~~ The Bismarck Tribune, North Dakota, Friday, 29 May 1998 Gottlieb Rivinius, 87, Elgin, died May 26, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Bethesda United Methodist Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Paul Baker officiating. Burial will be in Methodist Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. MDT today, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday morning. Serving as casketbearers will be Dennis Martell, Dennis Schmidt, Tim Bauman, Allen Rivinius, Todd Pack and Marlo Maier. Gottlieb Henry Rivinius was born on Sept. 6, 1910, to Gottlieb Jr. and Katherine (Stradinger) Rivinius at their homestead northwest of Elgin. He grew up there and attended rural school. Gottlieb began working with his parents and his brothers and sisters at their farm when he was young. On April 17, 1935, he married Sophie Loritz at Hebron. They moved to Elgin in 1937, where Gottlieb began working as a grain-buyer, a carpenter with his brother, Albert G. Rivinius, and grain farming. He also built and operated a bowling alley. He and his wife, Sophie, traveled to Mesa, Ariz., during the past winters. Sophie died on July 14, 1996. Gottlieb continued to live in Elgin and travelled to see his children and grandchildren. Gottlieb enjoyed sports all his life, bowling, tennis, baseball and especially golf. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but especially enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of Elgin Fire Department. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Cleone and Jim Martell, Las Vegas, Nev.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lynda Rivinius, Billings, Mont.; four grandchildren, Dennis Martell, Las Vegas, DeAnn and husband Tim Bauman, Las Vegas, Marcy and husband Todd Pack, Orlando, Fla., and Shelly Rivinius, Arlington, Texas; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; four sisters and his wife, Sophie. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)
