Bentley was dead. He became sick ten days previous with influenza and this developed into pneumonia. The entire Bentley family were sick with the influenza and Mrs. Bentley is still confined to her bed. The death of Mr. Bentley takes from the community one of its most esteemed citizens. "G. O." as he was called by his intimate friends, was a man in every sense of the word, he stood high in the estimation of his fellow citizens and was …..one of the first in every move for the betterment and upbuilding of town and community. He will be sorely missed among the business men of Midland and by friends over the entire country. He was an ideal husband and father and it is in the home where his absence will be sorely felt. Guttorm O. Bentley was born at Bryant, SD, June 27, 1880, and died at Midland, November 7, 1918. He was married to Lizzie Setbacken at Lake Preston January 18, 1905. In 1907 he moved with his family to Stanley County, homesteading at the town he established, Grandfield. He engaged in the mercantile business and stock raising at that place. In 1913 the family moved to Midland and during this time he has enjoyed a successful real estate business. He was a member of Midland Lodge A. F. A. M. Deceased is survived by his wife and five children, Herbert age 12, Audrey age 6, Maxine age 4, Ellery age 2, and Dorothy age 8 months. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Lena Bentley of Bryant, a brother Thomas O. Bentley of Midland, and five sisters, Mrs. T G. Rovig of Drady, ND, Mrs. J.B. Anderson of Lake Preston, Mrs. Edwin Stime of Sioux Falls, and the Misses Gurina and Clara Bentley of Bryant. Funeral services were held at Lake Preston on November 9th and interment made in the cemetery at that place. C. R. Blackmore of this place accompanied the remains to Lake Preston, as a representative of the Midland Masonic Lodge. The heart felt sympathy of the entire community goes out to the sorrowing wife and children and relatives. We wish it were possible to help lighten the burden of grief but this only the passing years can do, leaving the pleasant memory of a loved one gone on to his reward.
