Read More	GWEN SCHMITTEN GRIFFITH - Wednesday - March 22, 2006 Chelan Valley - Gwen Schmitten Griffith, 76, a long time resident of the Chelan Valley, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Lake Chelan Community Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born March 26, 1929, in Wenatchee, the daughter of Harold F. and Lola (Beam) Cole. She attended many schools in the Wenatchee area including Wenatchee High School. She moved with her parents to Manson in 1946, where she graduated from Manson High School in 1947. Following graduation, she went to work for Forney Insurance Agency on July 1, 1947. This was the beginning of a 55 year tenure of bookkeeping in the Chelan-Manson area. Her main jobs were with Lake Chelan Fruit Growers (Trout), Wapato Point, Mill Bay Resort and Peterson's Waterfront Resort, plus many small paying and volunteer bookkeeping jobs. Ill health forced her to retire in 2002. She was married to Ed Schmitten on September 11, 1949, in Wenatchee. To that union were born two children, Camille and Leonard. Mr. Schmitten preceded her in death due to a brain tumor in 1974. On January 2, 1975, she married Steve W. Griffith in Wenatchee. Together they had an apple orchard and two developments, Loup Loup Meadows and Morning Sun Estates. Mr. Griffith died in 2003, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Gwen was a member and Past Matron of Silver Star Chapter #93 OES and was a long time member of the Lake Chelan Ski Club. She is survived by her mother, Lola Cole Zornes of Wenatchee; a son, Leonard (Karen) Schmitten of East Wenatchee; a daughter, Camille (Bob) Cochran of Manson; a brother, Monte (Pat) Cole of Wenatchee; four grandsons, Brent (Angie) and Brandon (Shannon) Schmitten, Eric and Nick Cochran; and the loves of her life, three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kaylynn and Dylan Schmitten; and her two companions, Fluffy and Mittens. Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her father; and one sister, Charmaine Cole. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. from North Shore Bible Church with Donn Plew officiating. An Inurnment Service will follow at Fraternal Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Memorials may be made to the Lake Chelan Ski Club. Gwen's family wishes to thank Dr. Julie Smith and the Oncology Department at Wenatchee Valley Clinic, Dr. John Kremer and the staff at Lake Chelan Community Hospital. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
