Description	:	Hannah was the 4th of 9 children born to Henry Schafer and his second wife, Minnie Most. From her father's first marriage, Hannah also 5 surviving half-brothers and sisters. Her half-siblings were Herman, Lena, Bertha, Mathilda, Amelia, and Henry Jr. Her full siblings were Fritz, Margaret, Emma, Elizabeth, Ernst, Louis, Leonard, and Seibert. She was reared in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church south of Tobias, being baptized there as an infant and confirmed in 1914. Hannah and her future husband were in the same confirmation class. She married Emil Bartels on December 24, 1924 at the Zion Lutheran Church. They were lifelong members of that church. They farmed on a neatly-run acreage in Saline County and had three children: Junior, Priscilla, and Eugene. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, and full siblings Fritz, Margaret, Emma, Elizabeth, Ernst, Leonard, and Seibert, and all of her half siblings. A grandson, Terry, also preceded her in death. Surviving her were her children and 16 grandchildren, and brother Louis. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Her obituary, published 31 Aug 1996 in the "Beatrice Daily Sun" at Beatrice (Gage County), Nebraska, page 5: Hannah Bartels FAIRBURY---Hannah Bartels ,95, Fairbury, died Thursda,. Aug. 29, 1996, at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. She was born Dec. 17, 1900, at Tobias and grew up on a farm near Tobias. She attended Zion Lutheran Church School, Tobias, and worked at Concordia College-Seward and for various families in the area. She married Emil A. Bartels at the Zion Lutheran Church Parsonage on Dec. 14, 1924, and they farmed south of the church for 62 years, She had been a resident of the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury since 1987. Survivors: sons, Junior Bands and wife Dorothy and Eugene Bartels and wife Beverly, all of Tobias; daughter, Priscilla Scholl and husband Ben of Tomball, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brother, Louis Schafer Sr. of Geneva; brother-in-law, Edwin Bartels and wile Ester of Tobias; sister-in-law, Hattie Bartels of Geneva. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minna (Most) Schafer; husband, Emil A. Bartels, on March 19, 1976; infant grandson, Terry Bartels; infant great-grandson, Matthew Bartels; brothers, Ernest [sic-Ernst], Leonard and Fred Schafer; sisters, Margaret Bartels, Emma Bartels and Elizabeth Loseka; seven half brothers and sisters. Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, Pastor Michael Reiners officiating. Burial: church cemetery.
