On Thursday, March 27, Hans Carstens closed his earthly career and passed over the dark river, from whence there is no return. Mar. On Thursday, March 27, Hans Carstens closed his earthly career and passed over the dark river, from whence there is no return. Mar. Carstens health began to fail over a year ago, and after consulting a number of physicians and failed to get relief, he went to Rochester to consult the famous Mayo Bros. It was found that he was suffering from an incurable malady, cancer, that has baffled the skill of the most noted physicians and surgeons. Mr. Carstens returned from the trip and prepared to face the inevitable. Although he was able to be up and around for a long time. He was a patient sufferer and death came as a relief. The deceased devoted nearly all of his life to farming and being industrious, acquired considerable wealth. His present home, where he and his family have resided for many years, is known as the old O.M. Criswell farm, just north of Charter Oak, and is one of the finest farms in this vicinity. Short funeral services were held at the home on Sunday @ 1:30 PM. At the St. John's Lutheran church at 2:00 PM services were also held, conducted by Rev A Amstein. The remains were laid to rest in the Nissen cemetery. Deceased leaves to mourn, a widow, and a number of children who have the sympathy of the entire community. Contributor: GEC (49058432) •
