Description	:	From Buck Grove Centennial Book: William (Bill) Carstens was born January 8, 1877 near Schleswig. His parents were William and Ingebord Michaelson Carstens. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended the rural school near his home. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended the rural school near his home. On December 10, 1902 he married Dora Schiernbeck, daughter of Emma and William Schiernbeck, born January 13, 1884 in Otter Creek Township on a farm. The Carstens lived on a farm near Kiron for 12 years. in 1915 they purchased a farm south of Buck Grove where they lived for 30 years. In 1945 they retired from the farm and moved to Denison. Mrs. Carstens suffered a stroke April 8, and was taken to the Denison Hospital where she died April 11, 1954. At the time of her death she had two sisters; Mrs. Mary Koch and Mrs. Leona Zauss and one brother; Herman. Preceding her in death were three brothers; Henry, August, and Carl; and two sisters; Lena Miller and Minnie Williams. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. William and Dora were the parents of four sons; Wilbert (deceased), Alfred, Emil, and Irwin (who died in infancy), and two daughters, Hilda Fuller and Irma Bromert. Bill served Washington Township as a trustee for Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in Schleswig. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. In 1966 he went to live with his daughter Hilda for two years. he was then a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home for eleven years.
