Read More	Fairfield Daily Journal Saturday July 23, 1910 Pg. 2 Col. 2 HANS RASMUS PASSED AWAY Well Known Jefferson County Resident Died Friday Evening After Long Illness Hans Rasmus, one of the old settlers of Jefferson county died last evening at 7:30 o'clock at his home just east of Fairfield after an illness of nine months with Brights disease. Mr. Rasmus was well and favorably known all over the county. Hans Rasmus was born in Denmark April 15, 1845, and when 12 years of age he crossed the ocean with his parents and came to the United States. It was not long after the family landed here that they located in Iowa wherre young Hans was hired to a harness maker as a apprentice. After he learned the trade he located in Jefferson county. He was married when a young man to Miss Louise Alford (sic. a/k/a Alfred) of Batavia and the young couple located on the place just east of this city since. Mr. Rasmus was associated in the harness business for many years with George Howell, the veteran harness maker of Fairfield. He was later associated in the same business with B. F. Black. Six children werre born to Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus, three of whom two daughters and a son have already passed into the Valley of Death. Mr. Rasmus is survived by his wife and three children, two sons, Harry who is at home,, Frank of Davenport, and one daughter Mrs. Walter Franklin of Colorado Springs, Col., all of whom were able to be with their father during his last days. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the home and the remians will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
