Potts, 85, long time Custer resident, died Thursday Jan. 4, 1996 in Hardin., MT. He was born march 1, 1910 in Lake City, Iowa. Son of James and Ardella Richardson Potts. He moved with his family to a homestead 35 miles northeast of Custer in 1913, He grew up in the area and attended schools at the Bone Coulee School. Harold worked on the family farm before beginning work for the Montana Highway Department, retiring in 1973, after 33 years of service. He married Esther Dumler on May 18, 1939, in Red lodge, MT. They made their home in Custer. Harold enjoyed family gatherings and time with his friends at the Custer Senior Citizens. He spent much of his time cutting, polishing and making agate jewelry, which he often shared with people across country. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Esther of Hardin, MT.; one son, Dennis and his wife, Virginia of Sheridan, WY.; three daughters, Sharon Engle and her husband Jerry of Whitehall, MT., Loretta Davis and her husband, Chuck, and Linda Slattery of Hardin, MT.; two brothers, Doyle and his wife Doris of Park City, MT., Bill and his wife, Betty of Rosebud, MT.; eight grandchildren, J.D. Engle, Lisa Eiler, Lori Pitsch, Ivy Slattery. Denny and Jason Potts, Leann and Steven Davis; and three great-granddaughters, Erica Pitsch, Kacie Engle, and Kenadi Eiler. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Custer Congregational Church. Interment will follow in the Custer Cemetery, Custer, MT. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is entrusted with the arrangements. Should friend desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Custer Senior Citizens, Custer City Park Fund or charity of choice.
