Harold Irvin STALDER, 82, of State College, died November 7, 2001 in State College, Centre County, Pennsylvania following a short illness. Harold was born December 17, 1918 on a farm in rural Nodaway Township, Adams County, Iowa to William Oscar Stalder and Rose Angeline Harris, and died November 7, 2001 in State College, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Iowa State University, where he achieved both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. He was united in marriage to Mary DeCecco on June 2, 1956 in Avondale, Pennsylvania, where he worked 20 years at Burroughs Corporation in Paoli, Pennsylvania as a commuter engineer. He retired in 1984. During his career, he was a pioneer in some of the first computers and the early days of the space program, including the Atlas ICBM and Gemini Manned Missions. Following his retirement, he became well known in this area for his antique production and restoration skills. He was a member of State College Presbyterian Church and also performed volunteer work at Centre Community Hospital. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had served in the U.S. Navy from March 3, 1942 until January 9, 1946, during WW11, he participated in the Philippine Liberation, Asiatic Pacific, American Theatre, and European Theatre. He was later recalled to duty during the Korean Conflict from August 28, 1951 to April 23, 1952. A Navy Veteran, he served in World War II on the USS Omaha and USS Kephart, and in the Korean War on the USS Iowa. He enjoyed restoring antiques and woodworking. Preceding him in death were his parents Following his retirement, he became well known in this area for his antique production and restoration skills. He was a member of State College Presbyterian Church and also performed volunteer work at Centre Community Hospital. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Preceding him in death were his parents, step sister, Ruby Greenfield and Esther Anderson and brothers, Charles and Dale Stalder. He is survived by his wife, Mary DeCecco Stalder, and children, Donna Marie Vojcsik of Palm City, Florida, and John Stalder of Merritt Island, Florida. He is also survived by his brother James Stalder and sisters Marie Pullen and Ruth Lampe, as well as two grandchildren, Marcia and Max Vojcsik of Stuart, Florida. Public visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S.
