Description	:	ELSIE MARIE PULLEN Elsie Marie (Stalder) Pullen, 92, daughter of the late William Oscar Stalder and Rose Harriss, was born December 18, 1920 on the Stalder family farm east of Nodaway. She passed away April 24, 2013 at the Broomfield Skilled Nursing center, Broomfield, Colorado under the care of Hospice. Marie was the youngest of seven children in the Stalder family. Read More	ELSIE MARIE PULLEN Elsie Marie (Stalder) Pullen, 92, daughter of the late William Oscar Stalder and Rose Harriss, was born December 18, 1920 on the Stalder family farm east of Nodaway. She passed away April 24, 2013 at the Broomfield Skilled Nursing center, Broomfield, Colorado under the care of Hospice. Marie was the youngest of seven children in the Stalder family. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Charles Stalder and wife Esthelene; Dale Stalder and wife, Frances, and Harold Stalder; and sister, Ruby Greenfield and husband, Glen and Esther Anderson and husband David. Marie was able to attend and graduate from Villisca High School in 1939 by living with her grandparents, Ralph and Zora Harris in Villisca through the week. After graduating, she taught in the Adams County Country schools for several years. She met Art Pullen at the 102 River baseball game for the country school kids on the Tom and Florence Haley farm. In October 1944, Marie traveled to Seattle, Washington by train to marry Art who was on shore leave during WW11. Marie worked outside the home most of her life. About 1954, Art and Marie traded a truck for the Nodaway Gas Station and managed to make a living for themselves for the next 11 years. While Art drove a school bus for the Villisca School system. Marie managed the gas station. She worked at several jobs over the years, including census taking, factory work, and assistant Post Master at the Nodaway Post Office for many years. In February 1965, they moved to Denver, Colorado with the hopes of finding better jobs with retirement benefits. They made a nice home on the west edge of Denver, joined the Mile High Jeep Club, a snow machine club in the winter and attended many flea markets and auctions. Twenty years later, Marie retired form Western Electric and Art retired from Gates Rubber Company. Although they’s planned to stay in Denver for their retirement, the slower pace of the Villsica Community looked more appealing for them for their later years. They moved back to Villisca and enjoyed their homes on Central Avenue and West 3rd, until August 2005 when Art passed away. Marie stayed in Villisca for two additional years with the help of dear friends, Sharon and Gary Refer and Jay and Shelia Johnson. In 2008, she moved into independent/assisted living facility in Brighton, Colorado to be closer to her daughter and family. She enjoyed her apartment until November 2012, when she fell and broke a hip. At the time of her death, she is survived by daughters, Gail (Bernie) Lewis, Dawn (Verle) Hamm; granddaughter, Alyssa (JW) Hoffman, and Randi (Harper) West; great grandchildren, Cash and Jesse Hofman and Hindes and Charlie West, all from Colorado. she is also survived by her sister, Ruth Lampe, Winterset, Iowa and sister-in-law, Mary (Harold) Stalder Stuart, Florida. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive and will miss her. Graveside service and interment are scheduled for May 19, 2013, 4:00 p.m. at the Methodist Grove Cemetery, east of Nodaway with pastor Darren Briscoe officiating. Sandwiches and salads will be served following the ceremony at the Advent Christian Church.
