Case in Burlington, the Ordnance Plant in Middletown and at U.S. Gypsum all before working for many years at Mutual Telephone Co. of Morning Sun, both as a lineman and retiring as the manager. On June 20, 1953, he married Nancy Joan Kerr in Morning Sun. Mr. McElhinney worked at Morning Sun Grain, the Yarmouth Elevator, J.I. Case in Burlington, the Ordnance Plant in Middletown and at U.S. Gypsum all before working for many years at Mutual Telephone Co. of Morning Sun, both as a lineman and retiring as the manager. He attended school at Yarmouth and was a 1949 graduate of Morning Sun High School. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and MYF in Morning Sun and the Morning Sun Lions Club. He served on the Morning Sun Zoning Committee and was a Boy Scout leader and coached Little League. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, woodworking and camping. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kirk McElhinney of Forrest Lake, Minn., Bruce McElhinney of Davenport and Brent McElhinney of Morning Sun; five grandchildren; two brothers, Bill McElhinney of Morning Sun and Hubert McElhinney of Crawfordsville; and five sisters, Dorothy Kerr and Gladys Parish, both of Wapello, Celia Murphy of West Burlington, Pauline Metzger of Morning Sun and Verla Bigger of Media, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. McElhinney will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, with the Revs. Harlan W. Winter and Chris Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.
