Interment was in the Highland Township Cemetery. Harold Roosevelt Curtis, the son of Harry and Etha Ella Hunter Curtis, was born August 19, 1905 at West Branch, Iowa, and departed this life August 11, 1975, at Trinity Regional Hospital at Fort Dodge, where he had been for a week. He lived his life to 70 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Harold moved to the Churdan area with his parents as a young boy and graduated from the Church High School in 1924. AS a young man, he farmed and did custom work for other farmers. On July 10, 1928 he was unite din marriage to Marian E. Conant in the little Brown Church at Nashua. To this union were born two children, Marjorie and Charles. After their marriage the couple engaged in farming in the Churdan area. During Harold's business life, he was engaged in the Oliver Implement dealership with his brother, LeRoy Curtis in Jefferson, raising purebred hogs and cattle, sold DeKalb seed corn, and recently sold farm trailers. Harold was a member of the IOOF No. 354 of Churdan, receiving his 50 year pin in 1975. He served as a director of the Iowa Hampshire Swine Association for two terms. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Churdan, becoming a member after his marriage to Marian. He was Sunday School superintendent and taught a Sunday School class for many years, and also served as a deacon of the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother LeRoy Curtis, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Shaffer and Mrs. Etha Pruitt and four other brothers and sisters who died in infancy. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Marian, daughter and son-in-law Marjorie and Dwayne Fiscus of Churdan, son and daughter-in-law Charles and Lois Curtis of rural Churdan, six grandchildren, Sheryl, Shonda, and Sharla Fiscus, Stanley, Kent and Jill Curtis, all of Churdan, five sisters, Esther Curtis of Jefferson, Pearl Stephens of Crescent City, Ca., Inez Wilkerson of Jacksonville, FL, Lorraine Curtis of Mason City, and Lois Renner of Jefferson.
