Mrs. Crittenden, a former resident of this community will be remembered here by many as Mrs. John Ferris, who with her family lived on the farm now owned and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lewis and family Mr. Ferris passed away several years ago and is buried in the Morton Mills Cemetery. Francis, the only family survivor, accompanied his mother's body here, arriving Monday and funeral services were held at the Sutphen Funeral Home with burial on the family lot at the Morton Mills Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, James and Freddie. She was the sister of the late Mr. James A. Whitney who lived at the Whitney farm in Sciola. The bereaved son and family and relatives have the sincere sympathy of their friends and neighbors of this community. Mrs. Elnora Crittenden Funeral services for Mrs. Elnora Crittenden of Big Timber, Montana, were conducted January 24, by the Rev. E. J. Bolt at the United Brethren Evangelical Church in Big Timber, and the body was brought to Villisca where services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sutphen Funeral Home. The services in Villisca were conducted by Rev. M. A. Robeson and the pall bearers were Paul Bolt, Clifford Brewster, Neal Taylor, Frank Bates, Miles Roberts, and William Thompson. Burial was in the Morton Mills Cemetery. Elnora Whitney Crittenden was born march 18, 1864 in Montgomery County, Iowa and died January 21, 1953 at the Sweet Grass Community Hospital. She was married October 10, 1883 to John William Ferris and to this union were born three children, James B. who died in 1949, Freddie who died in early childhood, and Francis M. of Big Timber. In 1903, the family moved from Iowa to Montana and lived near Bozeman until 1913 when they took up a homestead near Springdal. In 1916 they returned to Iowa where Mr. Ferris died June 15, 1917. Soon after his death, Mrs. Ferris returned to Big Timber to reside with her son Francis. She was married April 8, 1924 to George Crittenden, a farmer near Bozeman where they made their home until Mr. Crittenden died in May 1935. Mrs. Crittenden then returned to Big Timber to make her home with her son. She was an early member of the Sciola Baptist Church and was a member of the United Brethren Evangelical Church in Big Timber at the time of her death.
