Whitmore, age 74, passed away at his home in Batavia at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. He had been in poor health for the past two years and seriously ill the past two months. He was born Oct. 16, 1879 in Jefferson county, the son of Albert and Isabel Harrison Whitmore. He spent practically all of his life in the Batavia community and attended school here and also attended one year at the Iowa State college at Ames. He was a teacher for several rural schools near Batavia before his marriage. He was married to Jessie Campbell, Sept. 12, 1907, and was engaged in farming until moving to Batavia in 1949. He was a member of the Batavia Methodist church. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Donald of Cedar Falls, Kent of Des Moines, Walter of Keokuk and Gordon of Hedrick. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, four brothers, Charles, William and Harvey, all of Batavia, and Claude of Fairfield; three sisters, Mrs. Leslie Utter of Winfield, Mrs. William Hupp and Mrs. Eva Miller, both of Batavia. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Batavia Methodist church with the Rev. Earl Erb in charge. The body will be taken from the Campbell funeral chapel to the church at 1 p.m. The casket will be closed at the start of the service. Burial will be in Batavia cemetery.
