Lead Daily Call newspaper, Friday, October 10, 1952, Page 8: Homestake Veteran Dies Early Today Harry Streff, well-known resident of Lead, died this morning at Homestake Hospital following a short illness. He was born Dec. 4, 1887, in Itzig, Luxemborg and had worked intermittently for Homestake Mining Company for 1911 to 1920. From May 18, 1921, Streff worked for Homestake as a compressor operator. He was a member of the Homestake Veteran’s Association. Surviving relatives include his wife, Doris, and a step-son, Richard, and three daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Thomas Rowe, and Mrs. J.J. Finn, Lead, and Mrs. Fritz Johnson, Deadwood. The body is at McColley Funeral home. Lead, Daily Call, Monday, October 13, 1952, Page 3: Hary Streff Funeral Services Are Held Final rites for Harry Streff were held from St. Patrick’s Church at 9;30 this morning with the Rev. John Corry officiating. The high school choir presented music during the funeral service. Pallbearers were Phil Cummiskey, Mirco Pavich, Frank Cetto, Mike Coppo, Nick Heinnen and Herman Stromer. Honorary pallbearers were Zay Weber, Dr. R.B. Fleeger, Dr. N.W. Stewart, Josiah Gerrans, LeRoy Seyhers, Ralph Nelson, Samuel Parson, Joe E. Brown and William Harvison. Burial was in South Lead cemetery. A step-son, Edward Peterson, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., was given an emergency furlough to attend the funeral. Also in Lead for the funeral from out-of-town was Sister Damian, Sturgis. Homestake Mining Company Veterans Association records note that he joined the Association on February 17, 1940; born at Cascade, Iowa on December 4, "1888;" began work for the Homestake Mining Company in 1915; married to Aila Wiita (second wife); children - 3 girls by first marriage; died at the Homestake Hospital in Lead on October 10, 1952 following an abdominal operation for ruptured gastric ulcer.
