LAYMAN MEETS ACCIDENTAL DEATH Hit With Falling Insulator Was Working With High Line Construction Crew Accident About Four O'clock-- Lived 45 Minutes May 6, 1925 The news of the accidental death of H.T. Layman, which occurred yesterday afternoon was a great shock to Newell people. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Layman and a brother of J. C. and D. N. Layman. Mr. Layman was working with a high tension line construction crew about ten miles north of Newell. An insulator had been hoisted to the top of a pole when the high wind forced it off of the pole and when it fell it struck Layman on the head and crushed his skull. It weighed about 85 pounds. A physician was called from Storm Lake but death occurred in forty-five minutes, about five minutes before the physician arrived, but he stated that nothing could have been done to save his life. The body was taken to the Hughes undertaking establishment in Storm Lake. The deceased was 45 years of age, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Layman. He married Myrtle Campton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Campton and until about nine years ago when they moved to Storm Lake, They lived on a farm northeast of Newell. They have four children, Durland of Sac City, Miss Zoe, a teacher and Boyd and Beth at home. Funeral services will be held at the home in Storm Lake at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be made in the Newell cemetery. FUNERAL OF HARRY LAYMAN HELD FRIDAY Harry Thornton Layman, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Layman prominent and well known resident of Newell and Buena Vista county, was born on a farm nine miles north of Newell on September 29, 1880, and passed away on May 5, 1926, at the age of 45 years, seven months and five days. He grew to manhood and received his education in the schools at Newell and on November 12, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Campton of Newell. To this union four children were born. They are: Durland, of Sac City, Miss Zoe, who teaches near Storm Lake, and Boyd and Beth, who are in school at Storm Lake. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Layman lived on a farm near Newell for some time. A few years ago they moved to Storm Lake and Mr. Layman was in the automobile business here for several years. Later he was employed by the Peterson Ice Company. He had only been employed by the Iowa Light, Heat & Power Co. one week when he met his death. His sudden death came as a shock to the relatives and friends, of the Layman family throughout the county and the family has the sincere sympathy of all in their bereavement. He leaves to mourn his death besides his wife and children, one grandchild, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Layman of Newell and two brothers, J. C. Layman and D. N. Layman both of Newell. One brother passed away about nine years ago. He is also survived by other relatives and numerous friends. Funeral services were held at the home in Storm Lake Friday afternoon at two o'clock and were conducted by J. E. Holden, a personal friend of the family and a former pastor of the Newell Congregational church. A Storm Lake male quartet furnished music. The employees of the Iowa Light, Heat & Power Co. attended a body, also the members of the Woodmen and Royal Neighbor lodges. An unusually large crowd attended the services. Interment was made in the Newell cemetery. Service at the grave were conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore, pastor of the local Methodist church, and assisted by Rev. Holden.
