Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Mollie Crutcher, Mrs. F. M. Gillespie, Victor Hazen and Harwood McCracken, who sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "My Old Kentucky Home" and "In That Beautiful Land." Mr. Shannon was a native of Kentucky and the selection of the second number was at his special request. Pallbearers were old neighbors, Frank Decker, Charley Decker, C. S. Levering, Wm. Ingwersen, E. W. Clem and Warren Merrill. Burial was at the LeRoy Cemetery. Harvey Shannon, son of Thomas and Mary Shannon, was born October 22, 1850 in Nicholas County, near Carlisle, Kentucky. He departed this life April 21, 1936 at the age of eighty-five years, five months and twenty-nine days. At the age of twelve years he, with the family consisting of his father and mother, five sisters, and four brothers, moved to Boone County, Ind. On February 7, 1875 he was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Slane. In 1876 they came to Kansas in a covered wagon and have lived here ever since. To this union ten children were born. Bertie, who died in infancy; Pearl, who preceded him in death January 8, 1924; Mrs. Icy Mozingo and Tom Shannon of Parsons, Kansas; John, Roy, Harry and Mary of the home; Mrs. Flora Decker, Burlington; and Mrs. Ella Gallaher of LeRoy. Mrs. Shannon preceded him in death on January 1, 1934. He had two aged sisters, Mrs. Mary Sims of Frankfort, Indiana and Mrs. Alice Kimble of Sheridan, Indiana. He was converted and joined the Christian church at Crandall in 1896. He remained a member of this church until it was discontinued. Mr. Shannon was a faithful husband, a loving father, a true friend and a kind neighbor. He has known the many trials and hardships of a pioneer life. Besides the children and the sisters, he leaves to mourn his departure, sixteen grand-children, seventeen great grand-children and many friends.
