Description	:	Roy Shannon of 13th and Niagara, Burlington died at 10:45 o'clock Sunday morning, November 7, 1965 at the Coffey county hosital. He was born southeast of Burlington on what is now the Schlichter place on July 27, 1885. He grew up there and attended Sunday school and church at Crandall. He never married. He is survived by two brothers, Harry Shannon of the home and James Thomas Shannon of Parsons and two sisters, Mary of the home and Mrs. Joe Decker of Burlington. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services for Roy Shannon were held November 9, 1965 at 2 o'clock from Damron Chapel in Burlington. Rev. Joe Eggebrecht of the Christian church officiated. Mrs. Lena Evans, soloist, sang, "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Mrs. George Salava at the organ. Casketbearers were Clarence Decker, Virgil Decker, Lester Decker, Claude Skillman, Milo Robertson and George Mozingo. Concluding services were at LeRoy cemetery. Roy Shannon, son of Harvey and Mary Elizabeth Shannon, was born July 27, 1885 in the Valley neighborhood, Coffey County, Kansas. He departed this life November 7, 1965 at the Coffey County hospital at the age of 80 years, three months and 10 days. Roy grew up southeast of Burlington, in the Valley neighborhood, and as a boy attended Sunday school and church at the United Brethren church at Crandall. He and his brother Harry and sister Mary made their home together, as he had never married. In 1947 they moved from their farm home to their present home on West Niagara street in Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Pearl Shannon, Mrs. Ella Gallagher and Mrs. Icy Mozingo; and two brothers, John Shannon and Bert Shannon in infancy.
