Harvey Joseph Blohm, the son of Henry and Mary Mathisen Blohm, was born October 30, 1916 on his parents farm west of Audubon, Iowa and died April 18, 1997 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 18 days. Harvey Joseph Blohm, the son of Henry and Mary Mathisen Blohm, was born October 30, 1916 on his parents farm west of Audubon, Iowa and died April 18, 1997 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 18 days. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Audubon. He attended rural school, "Hamlin #3" then helped on the family farm and worked for other farmers. On February 26, 1941, he was united in marriage to Marie Nicoline Juel at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Parsonage in Audubon. Five children were born to this union. One of the hardest trials they had to endure was the death of their daughter Barbara in 1954 from leukemia. Harvey and Marie farmed near Sharon Township, northeast of Exira, and then purchased the Plain View farm in Douglas Township northwest of Audubon. Harvey was one of that special generation of farmers who began farming by horsepower and then made the transition to modern machinery. Although Harvey was involved in all aspects of farming he especially enjoyed feeding fat cattle. In 1975 they retired and moved into Audubon. Harvey then was employed at various jobs including Multi-Pig Corp., Cahron Construction of Atlantic and Audubon Furniture Mart. Their greatest passion in town became their gardening. They were widely known for their skills and successes receiving many county fair prizes and awards. They enjoyed working the land and working together. Harvey was a long-time member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon and served on the Church Council. Later he was unable to be as actively involved due to his Parkinson's Disease. He resided in their home until he became a resident of the Friendship Home on February 19, 1997. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Barbara Irene Blohm; his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Rose Mary and Roland Hansen; and his sister-in-law , Norma Juel. Survivors include his wife Marie Blohm of the Friendship Home in Audubon, IA; his children and their spouses: Earl and Carolyn Blohm of Audubon,IA; Alice and George Beaman of Greenfield, IA; Janet and Retired Captain Dean P. Hendricksen of Sioux Falls, SD; Julie and Lawrence Jacobsen of Salt Lake City, UT; his 17 grandchildren, Susan and her husband Gene Mardesen of Elk Horn, IA; Mary and her husband Rodney Ratzlaff of Anchorage, AK; Ellen and her husband Keith Workman of Grimes, IA; Stephanie and her husband Brett Nissen of Audubon, IA; Lisa and her husband Douglas Harsh of Holman, WI; Bryan Beaman of Greeenfield, IA; Barbara and her husband Michael Pischke of Marshfield, WI; Deana and her husband James Kenyon of Draper, UT; Julie-Alice, Nicoline, Dorinda, Daniel, and Joseph Hendricksen all of Sioux Falls, SD; Lawrence Jr., Jewel Marie, Erik, and Wil Jacobsen all of Salt Lake City, UT; his 12 great-grandchildren: Megan and Nickolas Mardesen, Natashe, Gregory and Bethany Ratzlaff; Aaron and Luke Nissen; Logan Harsh; Peter, James, and John Pischke, and Madeline Kenyon; his brothers and sisters: Emmert and his wife Jane Blohm of Audubon, IA; Louis and his wife Geneieve Blohm of Adair, IA; Ruby and her husband LeRoy Jensen of Colorado Springs, CO; Herbert and his wife June Blohm; and Shirley Hansen all of Audubon, IA; his brothers-in-law and sister -in-law: Amanda and her husband Stanley Hansen of Elk Horn, IA; and Niels and Wilma Juel of Audubon, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
