Description	:	Herbert Blohm, the son of Henry and Mary Mathisen Blohm, was born in Hamlin Township, Audubon County, Iowa, on May 18, 1929, at his parents' farm, and died September 26, 2003, at the Carroll Manor in Carroll, Iowa, of cancer, at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 8 days. He was baptized and became a member of the First United Methodist Church in 1947. He attended school at Hamlin No. 3 School, then helped his father with farming. Read More	Herbert Blohm, the son of Henry and Mary Mathisen Blohm, was born in Hamlin Township, Audubon County, Iowa, on May 18, 1929, at his parents' farm, and died September 26, 2003, at the Carroll Manor in Carroll, Iowa, of cancer, at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 8 days. He was baptized and became a member of the First United Methodist Church in 1947. He attended school at Hamlin No. 3 School, then helped his father with farming. He then worked at Carlson Seed Company. Herbert was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, in September of 1951. He took his basic training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and transferred to William Beaumont Army Hospital at El Paso, TX, as a cook. On May 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to June Ione Wahlert at the Christian Church in Exira. A son, Randall, and two daughters, Lori and Rachel, were born to this union. Herbert was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in September of 1953. He started farming in 1954 on his grandparents' farm, until 1961, then farmed north of Audubon for 10 years, before buying a farm in Cameron Township, Audubon County, Iowa , in 1971. He retired at the age of 70. Herbert had been a member of the Beef Producers, Pork Producers, American Legion Post No. 120, Audubon, and a 4-H leader. Preceding him in death, were his parents; his brothers: Emmert and wife, Jane Blohm; Harvey and wife, Marie Blohm; Louis Blohm; his sisters: Ruby Jensen; Rose Mary and husband, Roland Hansen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Edna Wahlert. Survivors include his wife, June; his children: Randall Blohm; and Rachel Blohm, all of Audubon, Iowa; Lori and husband, Kevin Lewis of Des Moines, IA; his grandchildren: Jamie, Christine and Reece Blohm, all of Audubon, IA; Carly and Emily Lewis of Des Moines, IA; his sister, Shirley Hansen of Audubon; his sister-in-law , Genevieve Blohm of Guthrie Center; his brother-in-law, LeRoy Jensen of Colorado Springs, CO; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Richard E. Petersen of Exira; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Military Graveside Services were officiated by Audubon Post No. 120, American Legion and Dale Christensen Post No. 4119, V.F.W., Audubon, Iowa. Honorary Casket Bearers were Victor Bauer, Robert Campbell, Fred Rabe, and Russell Shupe. Casket Bearers were David Blohm, Earl Blohm, Dale Tessman, Darold Tessman, David Tessman, and Duane Tessman. Note: Herbert had no middle name.
