In her early teens, she moved to Cascade, Montana, where she attended high school and met her future husband, Thomas. They were married Aug. 28, 1951. Some women strive to succeed in business or want great treasures in their lives, but Hattie measured her success by the happiness and presence of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and now great-great-grandchildren. She loved each moment she spent with the family. She started to work outside the home when her children reached school age. She made the Snack Bar at Buttrey's famous, and most of the town knew it by the unofficial name of "Hattie's Soup Kitchen." She prepared wonderful soups, desserts and lunches for everyone who found their way to her snack bar. She retired after 16 years of service to spend retirement with her husband. Hattie loved working in her garden and grew the best vegetables in town, according to the grandchildren, who would rummage through the garden for their favorite greens. She always planted several dozen gladiolas and you could always smell the sweet scent floating throughout her home. Hattie loved having her family and friends come and do various crafts. We know it was mostly the laughter and visiting that she loved most. Hattie was an avid reader and loved puzzles of all sorts. Before her illness robbed her of mobility, she was also seen running around golf courses throughout the summers. Hattie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Tom; sons: Danny (Theresa) Corbett and Dennis (Susanne)Corbett; daughters: Kathy Eyler, Colleen (Dave) Gould, and Yvonne Powers; her 14 grandchildren; 16½ great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mary and Florence; and brothers, Gene, John and Dick. She also has several nieces and nephews across the state. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bobby; and several siblings. Published in Great Falls Tribune on March 13, 2010
