Description	:	Edna Schut, 86, of Sioux Center, died Sunday, January 20, at her residence. Funeral services were Wednesday, January 23, at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Roger Voskuil and the Rev. Harold Lenters officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Miss Schut was born January 29, 1915, at Sioux Center, the daughter of Peter S. and Ella (Vermeer) Schut. She attended country school and the Sioux Center Public School, graduating from high school in 1933. She then attended Northwestern College in Orange City for two years and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls in 1940. Later she earned her master's degree at Drake University in Des Moines. She was a teacher in rural school, in Luverne and Burlington, and in Sioux City Roosevelt School. While in Sioux City, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 22 years, a member of the National Education Association, the Iowa State Education Association and the Sioux City Education Association, where she served as secretary. For many years, she was president of the Sioux City Teachers Credit Union Board and a member of the Gamma Chapter (now Fidelis Chapter) of Alpha Delta Kappa. After 42 years of teaching, she retired to Sioux Center, where she was a member of First Reformed Church and the church's Priscilla Circle. She also belonged to the Sioux Center Women's Club, the Sioux Center Community Hospital Auxiliary and Northwestern College Auxiliary. She was a 4-H leader for several years. An avid quilter, she made many quilts for the hospital and college auxiliaries as well as family members. Survivors include her nephews and nieces, Peter A. and Gladys Schut, Ellsworth and Mary Ann Schut, Marcia and Theron Mulder, Herlan and Betty Schut and Pauline and Tony De Haan, all of Sioux Center, Glen and Glenda Schut of Piedmont, South Dakota, and Shirley and Glen Kuiper of Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Fannie; and two brothers, Sam and Ed. Sioux Center News 2002-01-23.
