Daughter of Francis Arthur Barnett and Myrtle A Brereton Barnett. She is buried next to the monument for her daughter, Anna Marie Heidman, who died on March 1, 1928 at the age of 7 years, 9 months and 14 days. ----------------- Marriages: Harry Joseph Heidman (married July 30, 1919 in Fairfield, Iowa; divorced Sept. 17, 1921. Spouse link entered Nov. 16, 2017 because they had a child, Anna Marie Heidman, but with some reservation because of the marriage/divorce circumstances.) On the marriage record transcription Harry was described as being born in New York, an orphan, and a laborer. Peter Robert Johnson. Married following Hazel's divorce from Harry Joseph Heidman, with permission of the judge who presided over the divorce petition. Married on December 24, 1921. Marriage license # 11393 in Jefferson county, Iowa. According to his WWII Draft Registration card in 1942 (found on Ancestry), Peter Robert Johnson was born Feb. 27, 1888 at Racine, Wisconsin. He and Grace lived at 501 W. Merrill street in Fairfield, Iowa. He was employed at the Fairfield Glove and Mitten Co. in Fairfield. His parents were listed on the 1921 Jefferson county marriage record as being Hans Peter Johnson and Licetta Sailhaff. Children: Kathryn (later Mrs. Don Disney), born about 1930, and Robert Robert Earl Johnson, 1936-1999. Peter R. Johnson, per his headstone inscription, died on August. 9, 1978 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery in Racine, Racine county, Wisconsin. ------------------ Obituary (transcribed from microfilm image at the Fairfield Public Library, but the image was somewhat unclear, so this transcription is as close to being verbatim as possible, but there could be some errors so it should be used with some caution): Fairfield Ia. Ledger Friday June 10, 1955 Pg. 8 Col. 3 Mrs. Bob Johnson Active In V.F.W. Auxiliary, Dies Mrs. Robert Johnson, active in V.F.W. Auxiliary circles and past state president of that organization, died this morning at 7 a.m. in the Ottumwa hospital. Mrs. Johnson underwent surgery in the Jefferson county hospital May 26 (sic. 28 ??), and was returned to her home on 300 W. Merrill (sic. obituary image on microfilm not clear, so this numerical address may not be correct) street last Sunday. She (sic. entered) the Ottumwa hospital last night and died this morning. Last rites will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran church with Dr. E. A. Piper in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hoskins Funeral home in the church at 2:30 p.m. the day of the services. Mrs. Johnson had been active in V.F.W. Auxiliary work for the past several years and held many important offices on a district and state level. At the time of her death she was chairman of the state rehabilitation committee, a post she had held for past four years, was service officer for the first district and secretary of the Fairfield Auxiliary. She was a past state president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, was a past district president, and had served as president of the local auxiliary for several years. She was a member of the Lutheran church. Hazel Grace Johnson, 54, was born January 26, 1901, in Jefferson county, the daughter of Arthur and Myrtle Brereton Barnett. She was reared and educated in Jefferson county, and was united in marriage on December 24, 1921 to Robert Johnson (sic. full given name was Peter Robert Johnson) who survives. The wedding took place in Fairfield. Her husband was one of the drivers for the stage coach that headed the historic caravan to Des Moines last August to open the Centennial state fair, and she was a passenger in the coach during most of the trip. Besides her husband, Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Don Disney, Fairfield; a son, Robert Earl*, at home; her mother, Mrs. Myrtle Barnett; a sister, Jessie Barnett, and three grandchildren, all of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her father; a daughter, Anna; and one brother and one sister. ---------------------- Son: Based on a search of death and grave sources on Ancestry and FindAGrave, the son Robert Earl Johnson was born on Feb. 7, 1936 in Iowa, perhaps in Iowa City, Iowa, and died on June 12, 1999. They are buried in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Clark county, Nevada. ---------------------- Marriage story: Fairfield Ledger-Journal Wednesday December 28, 1921 Pg 4 Col. 1 & 2 SOCIETY HEIDMAN-JOHNSON WEDDING SATURDAY A very pretty wedding took place Saturday evening at 8 o'clock at the Methodist parsonage when Mrs. Hazel Grace Heidman and Peter Johnson (sic. Peter Robert Johnson) were united in marriage by Dr. C. L. Tennent (sic), the ring ceremony being used, the only guests being the birde's parents and sister. The bride was lovely in a gown of blue georgette over silk mull and was attended by her sister Marie,who was dressed in black velvet. Mrs. Johnson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barnett of this city and Mr. Johnson is a machinist at the Fairfield Glove and Mitten factory. A wedding dinner was served Christmas Day at the home of the bride's parents. The young people will make their home at 402 West Madison street.
