Services will be Tuesday, May 6 at 9 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City with Rev. Dale Sallans officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, May 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Mrs. Anderson was born on December 25, 1898, at Greeley to Nils Otto and Hannah Tunall Nordstrom. The family moved to Central City in 1900 and Mrs. Anderson lived here her entire life. She graduated from Central City High School in 1917, and following graduation she furthered her education by studying music. Mrs. Anderson played piano for silent movies at the Empress Theatre and the Martha Ellen Theatre (presently the State Theatre) in Central City, as well as playing for several dance clubs. She kept the books for the Central City Nonpareil, taught country school for two years and taught at Chapman for one year during World War I. She then began assisting her father in the Nordstrom Cleaners and Launderers. Mr. Nordstrom built the building where the Central Republican Nonpareil office is now located. She married Ralph E. Smith on January 24, 1923 and they both worked in the Nordstroms Cleaners and Launderers business. Mr. Nordstrom died in 1938 and Ralph and Helen Smith purchased the business in 1942. Upon their retirement in 1953, they sold the business to Charles L. Smith. Ralph Smith died on May 10, 1955 after a brief illness. On February 23, 1962, Helen Nordstrom Smith married Lloyd J. Anderson at Sidney. Mr. Anderson was a retired yard master for UPRR out of Omaha. After their marriage, they lived in Central City and spent several years traveling. Mr. Anderson died on February 23, 1974. Mr. Anderson had attended the United Presbyterian Church in Central City since 1901 and she became a member of the church in 1916. She was a faithful member and assisted the church in many ways throughout her over 80 year membership. She also had attended the Swedish Lutheran Church Sunday School in Central City. She had received 75 year membership recognition for her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary Post #6 this past December and had held many offices in that organization over the years. She was also a continuous member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 200 since 1923-where she served as Worthy Matron in 1930. She also was a member of the Central City Chamber of Commerce for many years. Mrs. Anderson was always concerned with her family members and friends, giving assistance to them during their lifetime. She, along with her nephew, were the sole survivors of the Nordstrom family. Mrs. Anderson's memories of early years in Central City have been a source of information to people who were interested in the history of Central City. Mrs. Anderson also enjoyed playing bridge and music. Survivors include one nephew William D. Nordstrom of Cedar Rapids, IA, three great nephews, and one great niece, as well as other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, one sister Ethel Gantz and four brothers-Harold, Otis, Floyd, and Clyde Nordstrom.
