She died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, N.D. Helen Fern Haynes was born Dec. 27, 1918, to Clarence and Fern (Kent) Haynes in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Later her family moved to Grand Valley, S.D., where she attended Riverside School. She later taught school in the area. She married Edwin Gordon Dreiske on Nov. 26, 1942, at her parents' home south of Keldron. They began their life together on the Dreiske homestead, where they farmed and ranched. In July 1986, they retired and purchased a home in Lemmon. He died Dec. 29, 1999. She entered Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. She was a longtime member of Hope Presbyterian Church and after moving to Lemmon she joined Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of a local Extension club. She volunteered at the nursing home and the Thrift Shop and was a dedicated blood donor. She loved to play cards and attend dances and parties. Survivors include four sons, Donald (Rhonda) Dreiske of Belle Fourche, John (Linda) Dreiske of Green Acres, Wash., Randy (Shirley) Dreiske of Lemmon, and Tom (Rosemary) Dreiske of Keldron; 14 grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers. Casketbearers were Jim Petik, Edward Schmidt, Charles Clark, Arnold Zielke, Emil Tomac and Joe Tomac.
