Williams On June 11, 1915, Mrs. Helen H. Williams died at her home in Birmingham, Iowa, at the age of 23 years, 2 months and 28 days. Her maiden name was Helen H. Workman, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Workman. She was born on the parental farm near Winchester. On January 7, 1914, she became the wife of Ora O. Williams, who grew to manhood near the home of his bride. To them one child, a little girl Cecil, now nine months old, was born. Along with the father she survives, and she will be a comfort for him in his bereavement. She also leaves her parents, four brothers and three sisters to mourn for her. Helen was a lovable girl and a devoted wife and mother. Everybody who knew her liked her. Her kind nature and jovial disposition brought sunshine and cheer to all with whom she was associated. She will be sadly missed in the home and in society, as well. Funeral services were held in the Birmingham M.E. church, Sunday afternoon, June 13, Rev. Crowther in charge of the services. She lived at her home on the farm south of Winchester until the year 1905, when with her parents she came to Birmingham, where she resided up to the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Ora. C. Williams, Jan. 7, 1914. to this union was born one daughter---Helen Cecil, who is thus left in infancy without the protecting care of a mother's love. She also leaves a husband, father and mother, four brothers, three sisters and a host of friends to mourn her early death. Helen was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Workman of Birmingham, her mother being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Huber, who were old times residents of Winchester, whose labors and influences were for the betterment and uplift of the community in which they lived; while Mr. Workman is of that family of Workman's who came to Iowa when it was comparatively new country, and established a good name and an honest, rugged character, which has extended down through the succeeding generations. Helen possessed one of those amiable dispositions which scattered sunshine and good cheer wherever she went. Being a natural musician, she was the joy and life of any company where her soul stirring melodies given with a vim and touch so rare in musicians, largely contributed to the enjoyment and pleasure of the social events and entertainments of the community. Unlike many who are thus gifted, she was ever ready and willing to assist and do her part in making such occasions in life pleasant and agreeable. Helen is gone but she leaves behind her the blessed recollections of a cheery life, a gentle, loving disposition, and many acts of kindness to relatives, to young associates, and to young friends, which will long live in their memories as bright spots in their lives. The funeral service was conducted in the M. E. church Sunday at 3 p.m., by Rev. Crowther of Mt. Union, Iowa, formerly pastor at this place, assisted by the resident pastor, Rev. Lambert and Rev. Lair of the Free Methodist church. The discourse of Rev. Crowther was appropriate, timely and comforting, and beautiful music was furnished by the Williams quartet, brothers of the bereaved husband, who with Rev. Crowther, had been selected by the deceased before her death. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers, of which she was so fond in life, were the gifts of relatives and loving friends. A large floral offering was given by the father and mother of the young couple, and also by Harry Kirkpatrick and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Burns of Agency, Mr. and Mrs. David Huber of Pella, the Masonic Lodge of Birmingham, and the J. F. F. Club, a company of young ladies about her age of which she was a member, besides quite a profusion of home flowers, given by those who loved Helen, and sincerely mourned her untimely death and whose sympathies went out to the bereaved relatives and friends left behind. Interment was in the Birmingham cemetery, to which a large part of the congregation accompanied the casket. Source: Van Buren Co.
