He was born Aug. 30, 1893 at Birmingham, the son of Thomas and Mary Hootman Williams. On March 18, 1920 he married Elsie Miller at Birmingham. For a number of years Williams was associated with his brother, Glenn, in the carpenter trade. In the fall of 1922 he was appointed a Van Buren county deputy sheriff and served four years. He then went into the plumbing business and later opened the Williams Furniture store which he and his wife were still operating at the same time of his death. Williams was a member of the Methodist church and the Keosauqua Masonic orders. Surviving are his wife; four brothers, Ezra and Floyd, Birmingham, and Glenn and Irving, Keosauqua; three sisters, Mrs. Esther Burns, Ottumwa, Mrs. Florence McCall, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Ethel Buckmaster, Derby, Colo. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 26 at Keosauqua Methodist church, in charge of Rev. John Nye, assisted by Rev. John G. Ballensky. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery, Birmingham. Williams, 65, Keosauqua furniture dealer for many years, died of a heart attack Monday at 10 p.m. at his home. He was born at Birmingham, the son of Thomas and Mary Hootman Williams. He was married March 18, 1920, to Elsie Miller of Birmingham, who survives. He was associated for a number of years with his brother Glenn Williams, in the carpentry trade. In 1922 he was appointed deputy sheriff of Van Buren county and served four years. He was elected sheriff in 1926 and served through 1930. Leaving that office he went into the plumbing business, later changing to a furniture dealership. He is a member of the Methodist church and Masonic orders. Besides his wife he leaves for brothers, Ezra and Floyd of Birmingham and Glenn and Irving of Keosauqua, and three sisters, Mrs. Esther Burns of Ottumwa, Mrs. Florence McCall of Denver and Mrs. Ethel Buckmaster of Derby, Colo. The body is at the Burnett-Catcott funeral home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Keosauqua Methodist church. Note: He is buried in Maple Hill cemetery at Birmingham.
