Irene attended country school, graduated from Beatrice High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She married William Hamm on Nov. 14, 1947, at the Beatrice Mennonite Church. They were married 68 years, and were blessed with three daughters and a son, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Irene taught school in several country schools. Irene attended country school, graduated from Beatrice High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She married William Hamm on Nov. 14, 1947, at the Beatrice Mennonite Church. They were married 68 years, and were blessed with three daughters and a son, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Irene taught school in several country schools. She enjoyed ice skating in her younger years, sewing, music, and was a great cook, inviting many people to her house for dinner over the years. Irene had a great life and loved her family dearly. Helen Irene Hamm, 88, Beatrice, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. In addition to the immediate family, there are many friends and extended family who are left with memories. Irene is preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Phyllis Brandt. Memorial services will be held 11 am, Friday, Nov. 20, at the First Mennonite Church, rural Beatrice, with Pastor Brett Klingenberg conducting the service and offering words of comfort. Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday in the First Mennonite Cemetery, rural Beatrice. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 am-9 pm at Harman-Wright Mortuary with the family greeting friends from 5:30-7:30 pm Thursday evening. Memorials are established to the Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice or the First Mennonite Church Window Fund with John Penner and Louie Esau in charge.
