Description	:	Helen Marie Bartlett was born in Vermont, the daughter of Chauncey Bartlett and Jemima Stoddard. The family story is that she had moved with her family to Wisconsin and was a school teacher when Coit Herrick attended her school to better his education. They were married shortly thereafter. She moved with her husband and extended Herrick family to Iowa, then pioneered on the Oregon trail in the 1860's with a wagon train of many Herrick relatives ending in Red Bluff, California. Read More	Helen Marie Bartlett was born in Vermont, the daughter of Chauncey Bartlett and Jemima Stoddard. The family story is that she had moved with her family to Wisconsin and was a school teacher when Coit Herrick attended her school to better his education. They were married shortly thereafter. She moved with her husband and extended Herrick family to Iowa, then pioneered on the Oregon trail in the 1860's with a wagon train of many Herrick relatives ending in Red Bluff, California. After 20 years living and farming in Tehama and Shasta Counties she died in 1886 while living on the Stone family farm, the property of her daughter Helen Augusta and son-in-law Albert Stone. She was known to be buried with a daughter, and that is assumed to be her daughter Gertrude who died the same year. It appears one other unknown family member rests in the family plot, marker unreadable. The homestead was on Rock Creek Road near the town of Manton, California. Manton is in Tehama county, but the burial plot is located on land in Shasta county Note: The gravestone shows birth year 1832, census records indicate she was more likely born about 1835.
