Description	:	Helen Marie Jacobs, the daughter of George and Leah Alberding Short, was born March 28, 1900, at Nelson, Nebraska. She departed this life on Thursday, November 12, 1987, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, Nebraska, at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 14 days. Marie joined the Presbyterian Church in Nelson in October of 1912. She graduated from Nelson High School and furthered her education by obtaining a teaching degree from Hastings College. Read More	Helen Marie Jacobs, the daughter of George and Leah Alberding Short, was born March 28, 1900, at Nelson, Nebraska. She departed this life on Thursday, November 12, 1987, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, Nebraska, at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 14 days. Marie joined the Presbyterian Church in Nelson in October of 1912. She graduated from Nelson High School and furthered her education by obtaining a teaching degree from Hastings College. Marie taught rural school for a brief period before her marriage to Marion Kirby on May 19, 1926 at the home of her parents in Nelson. The couple lived on a farm near Edgar before moving to California in 1944. Marie taught school in Indio and Tipton, California, up until the time of her retirement. Marion preceded Marie in death. On July 25, 1966, Marie and Wesley Jacobs were married in the Presbyterian manse at Edgar. Wesley and Marie were both very active members of the Church of the Plains. Wesley preceded Marie in death on July 23, 1982. Funeral services were held graveside, 11 a.m., November 14, 1987, Edgar City Cemetery, Edgar, Nebraska. The Rev. Stuart Barnes Jamieson was the officiant. Urbauer-Williams Funeral Home of Edgar was in charge of the arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, November 19, 1987; pg. 2
