Description	:	William Marion Short, son of George Ernest and Leah Rachel (Alberding) Short, was born in Nelson, Nebraska, on July 29, 1905, and passed away Tuesday, August 1, 1995, at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years and three days. He was confirmed in the Presbyterian Church on March 28, 1915, by Rev. Kanuer and was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ at the time of his death. He was confirmed in the Presbyterian Church on March 28, 1915, by Rev. Kanuer and was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ at the time of his death. William was raised in Nelson, attended Nelson Schools and graduated from Nelson High School in 1924. William was employed in Chicago as a printer in a print shop. He was inducted into the United State Army June 26, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, and was honorably discharged September 1, 1945, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, as a Tec 5, serving in World War II. After his discharge, he was employed at the Ammunition Depot east of Hastings, Nebraska, until its closing. He then returned to Nelson. William had been a resident of the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island for a little over one year. He always raised a garden and shared the produce with family and friends.
