She was the mother of Lloyd (Tommy) Costar, Chico High School track coach for many years who died last August. Born Helen Stever Camper, Mrs. Costar was born in Yuba County on April 22, 1866. She moved to Chico with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Camper, in 1872 and had resided here since. "She was married on September 9, 1885, to W. J. Costar, and four children were born, two of whom survive. Two sons, Lloyd and William James, Jr. preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Garrison Costar of San Francisco; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Kunze of Davis; two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Schwein of Chico and Mrs. Gertrude Merryman of San Francisco; a brother, D. R. Camper, Chico; four grandchildren, Mrs. Jane Jellett of Lafayette, Tommy Kunze of Davis, Mrs. Betty Tannar of Richmond and Garrison Costar, Jr. of Honolulu; a nephew, Clarke Camper of Chico; and six great grandchildren. "Mrs. Costar has been a member of the Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church for many years. Nugent Funeral Service has charge of the burial services, which will be private. Rev. William MacInnes will officiate. The family requests no flowers."
