Camper, Pioneer of Chico, Dies in Whittier. Mrs. H.W. Camper, for many years a highly respected resident of Chico, died at the home of her son-in-law, George L. Hazzard at Whittier at 11 o’clock yesterday morning. Mrs. Camper was eighty years old. Death followed an attack of pneumonia, made more difficult to combat by her age. Mrs. Camper was born at Bloomington, Ind., September 21, 1836. She was married in 1957. She crossed the plains in company with her husband with an emigrant train in 1859. Mrs. Camper was one of the pioneers of the State. Her wide circle of friends who mourn her death bespeaks the esteem in which she was held in Chico. Surviving are the widower and seven children, who are: Harry H. Camper of Berkeley, Mrs. G.L. Hazzard of Whittier and Mrs. Theodore Schwein, Mrs. W.J. Costar, Mrs. Gertrude Merryman, Charles W. Camper and D.R. Camper, all of Chico. The funeral will be held at the family residence at Fifth and Chestnut streets this city and it will be private. ~~~ 79-year-old Eliza Sevilla Camper was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on January 6, 1916.
