Read More	The Hooper Sentinel October 12, 1922 A Life Long Resident is Called by Death With the coming of the noon hour on Monday, October 9, 1922, came also the death angel into the home of A. W. Hartung, summoning therefrom the wife and mother without whose presence a home is no longer a home in its best and truest sense. Mrs. Hartung had been in failing health for the past nine years, being a sufferer from diabetes, but so steadfast was her patience, so enduring her courage and above all so selfless her every act and thought, that only toward the end did she give up and really permit herself to become what is ordinarily considered as ill. On last Thursday she ceased being up and about the home where her quiet presence had so long held sway, and remained in the bed from which she never again arose. Even at that time, and up until Sunday her condition was not considered as critical by those in attendance, but on Sunday noon she entered into a state of coma which gave indication that the end was fast approaching. From then on her decline was rapid and she passed peacefully away at noon the following day. Henrietta Margaret Uehling, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Martin Uehling, was born on the Uehling homestead five miles north of town on December 7, 1870, and during the 51 years, 10 months and 2 days of her life on this earth was a continuous resident of this place and vicinity. Mrs. Hartung was a woman whose first thought was the welfare of her home and family and the aid and comfort of her neighbors and friends, and her kindly administrations in time of need had made her most highly beloved by those with whom she cane in daily contact as well as by those who knew her less intimately. She was truly a good woman in every sense of the word. She was the same gentle, kind, loving woman every day of the year and she always had a smile and a good word for everybody. It is women such as this that makes the world better for having lived in it. So her passing leaves a vacancy which is hard to fill. On December 15, 1891, she was united in marriage to A. W. Hartung. She was the mother of four children, one of whom died in infancy, and a foster mother to the three children of her husband by a former marriage. It is not always that even the best of women can so completely take a lost mothers's place in the hearts of children as Mrs. Hartung took in the hearts of her three step-children, Mrs. A. M. Tillman of Hooper, Arthur Hartung of Wisner, and Harry Hartung of Omaha. Her other surviving children are Mrs. Adella Galladay of Fullerton, Mrs. Alvina Miles of Savanna, Ill. and Avillus, all of whom were here when the end came. Besides these children she is survived by the sorrowing husband and a father and by three sisters; Mrs. John Erb, of Atkinson; Mrs. Henry Munderloh, of Orchard, who was also here at the end; and Mrs. J. J. Fletcher, of Minneapolis; and two brothers, E. M. Uehling, of this place, and R. F. Uehling, of Plymouth, Ill., who came to Hooper Tuesday morning. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon with services at 1 o'clock at Grace Lutheran church, Rev. R. W. Livers preaching the comforting funeral sermon. The services were very largely attended as a memorial to the memory of one who had held the respect and esteem of all. A large concourse followed the remains to their resting place in the local cemetery.
