HOFER Henry Christian Hofer, son of Gottfried and Phillipina Blau Hofer, was born Dec. 1, 1891, near Downs, Kans., which was the family home for many years. He passed away Dec. 5 at the Veterans hospital in Wadsworth, Kans. He was united in marriage Aug. 10, 1924, to Emma F. Henninger who preceded him in death in 1950. For many years he worked in the newspaper profession in Kansas at Jewell, Jamestown and Burr Oak. He purchased the Beattie Journal in Beattie, Kans., and was editor of that publication for many years. In 1944 he assumed ownership and became editor and publisher of the Skidmore, Mo., News, retiring in 1953. During World War I he served in France. He was a member of the Methodist church in Skidmore, MO. Mr. Hofer was interested in world, state and local events and enjoyed his family and friends. His delight was his two grandchildren and his keenly interest in all activities where children were concerned. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joanne Sharp of Clearmont, Mo.; Leland Scott and Jarrel of Seattle, Wash.; and Armand of Columbia, Mo. other survivors include three brothers, Bert of Orange, Calif.; Will of Simla, Colo.; John of Downs, Kans.; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Heiser of Osborne, Kans.; and Mrs. Minnie Estes of Sugar City, Colo., two grandchildren, Jennifer Louise and Martin Edward Sharp of Clearmont, Mo. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive, One sister, Anna, Preceded him in death. JEWELL COUNTY REPUBLICAN, DECEMBER 12, 1957, PAGE 4; FINAL RITES FOR H, C, HOFER HELD IN JEWELL SUNDAY Funeral services for Henry C. Hofer of Skidmore,, Mo., who passed away Dec. 5 at the Veterans hospital at Wadsworth, Kans., were held at the Van Sickel Funeral Home in Jewell on Sunday afternoon. Burial was in the Wallace Cemetery. The Rev. A. F. Messer conducted the services. From 1920 to 1924 Mr. Hofer worked as a printer in the Republican office. He also worked in the printing offices at Jamestown and Burr Oak before buying a newspaper at Beattie, Kans., which he published for some years. His final newspaper work was at Skidmore, MO., where he also owned and published a newspaper. He retired in 1953. Mr. Hofer and Miss Emma Henninger of Jewell were united in marriage in 1924. Mrs. Hofer passed away in 1950. Their four children-three sons and a daughter-survive. At the service Sunday, Mrs. Ira Schindler and Mrs. A. W. James sang three numbers. They were accompanied by Mrs. W. M. Green. Pallbears were ; Birt Saint, Everett and R. L. Palmer, Fred Smith, Ferd Kemmerer, and Warren Oplinger. Relatives and friends her for the service included; A son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Armand Hofer of Columbia, MO.; a daughter, Mrs. A. J. Sharp and husband of Clearmont, MO; sister-in-law Miss Betty Henninger of Topeka;brothers, Will Hofer of Colorado Springs and John Hofer and wife of Downs; sisters, Mrs. Minnie Estes of Sugar City, Colo., and Mrs. Leslie Heiser and family of Osborne; cousins, Mrs. Chas. Hofer of Downs and Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Kent of Manhattan; Sid Barrett of Beloit, and Mrs. Grace McFadden of Portis.
