He dies in 1946 at age 88. * * * * * OBITUARY-Henry Sharff LAMONT-Henry Sharff, the eldest son of Sophia and Christian Sharff, was born on May 27, 1858, near Centerville, Wisc., and died Sept. 16, 1946 at Oelwein, at the age of 88 years and 4 months. He came to Iowa from Wisconsin with his parents at the ge of 18 and located at Mudville. On May 9, 1882, he married Katie Ike, and they had nine children, two of whom preceded him in death. During their early married life Mr. and Mrs. Sharff settled in Lamont, where he opened a blacksmith shop, later engaging in well drilling and in the implement business for a number of years. In 1917 the family moved to Gillet Groave, Iowa, where Mr. Sharff was engaged in extensive farming operations and also in the lumber and grain business. In May 1940 he retired and moved back to Lamont where he lived for four years moving to Oelwein in the fall of 1944. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Katie Sharff, three sons, Herman of Oelwein, Bert of Mason City, and Dorance of Greenville, and four daughters, Mrs. F. J. Havens, Mrs. E. H. Jones, both of Lamont, Mrs. T. R. Johnson of Dickens and Mrs. William C. Hedgecock of Cedar Falls; also 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, two brothers, Fred and Ernie of Aurora, and a grandson Willard, who preceded him in death. For many years he has been a member of Solomon Lodge No. 594 A. F. & A. M. in Lamont. The three months preceding his death Mr. Sharff received care in the home of his son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sharff in Oelwein. Funeral arrangements were by the Rhines Funeral home. The Rev. Alfred Christiansen officiated. Burial was in the Madison cemetery. Casketbearers were Hugo Sharff, Herman Sharff Jr., C. Emerson Greenberg, Howard Havens, Wayne Havens, and Melvin Havens.
