She died in 1925, of stomach cancer, at age 72. * * * Sophia Scharff Sophia Maria Elizabeth Scharff was born December 7, 1852 at Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, the third child of Sophia and Christian Scharff and died on the 13th day of June, 1925, at her home in Aurora, Iowa. Miss Scharff emigrated from Germany with her parents when she was a child 5 years old, and for some time lived in the state of Wisconsin. There she received her education in the schools, and was also carefully instructed in the religion of her faith. at the age of 14 she was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Centerville, Wisconsin. Her vow to remain true and faithful to her church and her Lord Jesus Christ, was faithfully kept in all the trials and afflictions of her life. In the death of Miss Scharff the church here in Aurora lost one of its most faithful members. Having had the welfare of her church constantly at heart; she will be sadly missed by her fellow believers. To all her acquaintances she was known as a true Christian with splendid qualities of character. Her kind sympathetic disposition won for her the respect and esteem of all with whom she came in contact. Unfortunately she was a sufferer for many years , but she had the disposition of a real Christian and endured her sufferings with little complaint. Her death was that of a trusting child of God. She fell asleep in Jesus. She leaves to mourn her death, four brothers, Henry of Gillet Grove, Ia., August, Ernest and Frederick, of Aurora, a large number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Last services were conducted from the Lutheran church at Aurora, June 16, 1925, at 10:00 a.m. Rev. C. Rembolt, of Arlington officiated. Internment was made in Madison cemetery. May she rest in peace.
