Herbert remarried on June 10, 1961 to Doretta Rogers (this would have been her 4th or 5th marriage) Goodale*. Although this is a triple inscription headstone, Doretta is NOT buried in this plot. She was born in 1892 and died in 1977, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Evidently she had children from a previous marriage(s). Neither Herbert nor Doretta have their full DOD years engraved, Doretta's non-burial notwithstanding. ------------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Monday Nov. 10, 1975 H. Goodale Rites Set Herbert F. Goodale, 91, 301 W. Hempstead, died at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Nelson Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev. J. E. Dorman officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Masonic Rites at the grave. Members of the family will be at the Weston Behner Funeral Home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Goodale had been a resident of Jefferson County for many years and operated the country store at Glasgow. He served two terms as Jefferson County Sheriff from 1938 to 1942. He also served as a member of the Fairfield Police Department and later operated his own insurance business until his retirement. Goodale was a member of the First Christian Church and a 63-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Star of Bethlehem Shrine No. 44. He was presented his 50-year certificate and pin from the Masonic Lodge during special ceremonies at the Masonic Hall April 1, 1963. Herbert F. Goodale was born May 1, 1884, in Arthur, Ill., the son of Edwain (sic. a/k/a Edwin) and Florence Boyles Goodale. He was married to Arminda Kreider in 1908 and she died in 1960. His marriage to Doretta Rogers took place June 10, 1961 iin Buffalo, N. Y. In addition to his widow he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alma Shoemaker, Bremerton, Wash.; also five grandchildren,, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and four stepchildren. ------------------- Note: Doretta does not currently have a FindAGrave memorial. The following is from her Fairfield Ledger obituary: The Fairfield Ledger July 11, 1977 Mrs. GOODALE Dies In Canada Mrs. Doretta GOODALE, 87, former Fairfield resident, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Douglas BRICKER, 644 Main Street West, Apartment 1401, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, L8S-1A1. Mrs. GOODALE had lived with her daughter over a year. Other survivors are another daughter, Mrs. Elinore McCOY of Oakville, Ontario; a son, Jack of Hamilton and several grandchildren. Mrs. GOODALE was a member of First Christian Church, White Shrine and eastern Star in Fairfield. (as published) The body will be cremated and memorial services will be held Thursday in Hamilton.
