Married Sept 4 1928. Herb Peters, 58, of Oak died at his home Monday afternoon. He was a victim of a heart attack. Mr. Peters was well-known around the county. He served as a County Commissioner from January, 1950 to August 3, 1951 when he resigned to be appointed County Clerk. He served as County Clerk for nine years, winning the 1954 and 1958 elections for that position. He is survived by his wife, Lola, a son, Jimmy, of Clay Center and a daughter, Doris (Mrs. Larry Thornberry) of Superior. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Church in Nelson, with burial in the Edgar Cemetery. Klawitter Mortuary is in charge of the services. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, October 15, 1964 ===================================== Herbert Henry Peters was born to Henry W. and Rhoda M. Peters on July 26, 1906, at Oak, Nebraska. He was married to Lola Marie Kinnison September 4, 1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Two children were born to this union, Jimmy Lee, December 1, 1931, and Doris Delene, March 19, 1940. At the age of twelve he was baptized and became a Christian in the Church of Christ at Angus where he retained his membership until his death. Mr. Peters spent his childhood and early married life near Angus. He was County Commissioner for 3 years before moving to Nelson in 1951. He was then County Clerk for 9 years. Then he and Mrs. Peters moved to Oak in 1960 when he became associated with the Scroggin Bank. He was preceded in death by his father in 1950 and mother in 1959. Mr. Peters died at his home in Oak on October 12, 1964. He was a kind and faithful husband and father. He was a loving grandfather and very special to his four grandchildren. Services were conducted at the Christian Church with Rev. Victor Schwarz and Loren Daly officiating. Interment was at the Edgar Cemetery. Singers were Mrs. Merton McCartney, Mrs. Archie Melvin and Mrs. Loren Jensen, accompanied by Mrs. Bert Worley. Casket bearers were W.E. Garrison, McKinley Adamson, Norlan Melvin, Warren Grossman, Leonard Scroggin and LaVern Hutchinson. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, October 22, 1964
