He died at the age of 75 in a Seattle hospital Tuesday. Mr. Walters was born in Port Townsend December 27, 1894, the son of Marshall Reed Walters, a ships captain, and Emma Eldridge Walters. Captain Walters was lost at sea in Alaskan waters. After attending school here, Herbert Walters operated a car for hire business before becoming a partner in the Chimacum valley Logging Co. Later he operated a garage in Chimacum with J. Harold Dollar, worked as a longshoreman, was a member of the Jefferson County Highway Dept. road crew and served as a custodian at Chimacum school. He later re entered the logging business before retiring in 1964. Survivors include his wife Ruth, a son, Marshall, and two grandsons, Marshall Reed and Paul Jeffrey Walters, all of Port Townsend; a brother, Frank Walters, Chimacum; Sister, Belle Gould, Everett; half brothers, Fred Thompson, Seattle and George Thompson, Port Angeles, and half sister, Evelyn Wood, Seattle. Mr. Walters was a member of the Baptist Church. The Rev. Don Ring will conduct the funeral service. It was requested that remembrances be in the form of donations to the Kidney Fund or a favorite charity.
