Herbert and Verna Reuther Revised Hoger Book 1993; Paul and Martha Reuther Herbert 'Herby' Oscar Reuther was born January 13, 1925, on the Paul Reuther homestead seven miles south of Center (Oliver) North Dakota, located on the south half of section 24-14-184, to Paul Otto and Martha Olga Otilla (Hoger) Reuther. Herbert was baptized on March 22, 1925, by Reverend Roepe at Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel Church at Bremen, Rosebud (Christ's Lutheran Church of Churchtown). He was confirmed on July 2, 1939, at Bremen by Reverend Hanneman. Herbert attended rural school in the Bremen District and graduated from the 8th Grade there. He worked on his father's farm, enjoyed going threshing and silo filling with relatives. He also liked riding and working with the horses. On Sunday, November 12, 1950, at 2:30 in the afternoon he was married to Verna Bornemann at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover, North Dakota. A party was given to the couple on the 13th of November 1950 at 8:30PM at the Casa Loma. Verna Elise Bornemann was born September 22, 1927, to Henry Fredrick and Emma Augusta Dorthea (Hintz) Bornemann, on her Grandparents (Fred Hintz) homestead west of Hannover, North Dakota. She was baptized in 1927 by Reverend Wohifeil, and was confirmed April 12, 1942, by Reverend William H. Gierke at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover, North Dakota. She attended school in her parent's home for two (2) years and then went to Hannover Public and Parochial schools. She graduated from Center High School in 1947 and attended summer school at Dickinson College in 1947 and 1948; and taught school at Hannover Public for the 1947-48 and 1948-49 terms, which was the same school she had attended. In 1949 she moved to Bismarck. She worked for Scotts Dime Store and Peoples Department Store. They moved to Bismarck after their marriage. The couple setup their first home at 501 W. Thayer Ave. Herb worked for Yegan Dairy. He says Chris Yegan was a very good man to work for. He later worked for Occident Seeds and Power Construction which built the Super Value Warehouse. He worked for several other construction companies. In April of 1958, he started working for the North Dakota State Highway Department, in maintenance. He worked there until August of 1987 when he retired. Herb enjoys going to Rummage and Auction sales, also out to Dwight and Susan's farm where he enjoys the cattle and rabbits. After her marriage to Herby, Verna was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Verna also was employed by Norwest Bank as a switchboard operator and also in the bookkeeping department and at the Bismarck Hospital as a switchboard operator. She now works in her home baby-sitting. Verna enjoys cooking and baking very much, also enjoys quilting. She is an active member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) and is now serving as Vice President. She also has held other offices in LWML. Herby and Verna have two children. Dwight Herbert was born March 23, 1954, at Bismarck. He was educated in Bismarck, and graduated from Bismarck High School. He was married on February 15, 1974, to Susan Kaye Diede, the daughter of Milton and Viola (Donner) Diede. Sue was born June 10, 1952. They live on a farm northeast of Bismarck. Dwight is employed by the Sweetheart Bakery in Bismarck. Dwight and Sue have two children; Rhonda Lee, born August 14, 1981, and Jon Michael, born June 13, 1984. Darlene Kay was born November 14, 1958, at Bismarck. She attended Bismarck schools and graduated from Bismarck High School. She was married on December 30, 1982, to Bradley Alan Kautzman. Brad was born July 18, 1958. to R. Steve and Ida (Kopp) Kautzman. They have two sons; Cody Alan, born May 29, 1984 and Cayle Alan, born January 29, 1988. They reside in Bismarck. Reuthers Share 4 Decades The children and grandchildren of Herbert and Verna hosted a 40th wedding anniversary open house for the couple from 1:30 to 4:00PM the 11th of November at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Friends and relatives are invited. Obituary Bismarck Tribune (July 5, 2004) Herbert 0. Reuther, 79, Bismarck, died July 2, 2004 at a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 5, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Les Wolfgram officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Herbert was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Judson, the son of Paul and Martha (Hoger) Reuther. He was raised and attended school in Judson. He was baptized March 25, 1925, and confirmed, July 2, 1939, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bremen. He married Verna Borneman Nov. 12,1950, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hannover. Herbert worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department for 35 years. Herbert enjoyed auction sales, fixing things, horses and mules. He was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Bismarck. He is survived by his wife, Verna one son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Susan Reuther, Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Brad Kautzman, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Rhonda, Cody, Jon, and Cayle, all of Bismarck; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Otto and Marian Reuther, New Salem, LaVern Reuther, Montana, and Frances Reuther, Washington; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Irma and Edward Sorge, Bismarck, Wilma and Roy Field, Minnesota, Hella and Edwin Keller, Bismarck, and Shirley and Willard Davis, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson Casey Kautzman; and three brothers, Walter, Erwin and Arno Reuther.
