Description	:	Herman A "Chief" Carter, 91 of Manchester, OH died Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, OH. He was born February 3, 1920 in Sprigg Township, Adams County, Ohio to the late Vance and Ethel (Hughes) Carter. Herman was a WWII Army Veteran and a lifetime member of the Matthews-Carter American Legion Post 325, the Richard L Dryden VFW Post 8287, the DAV and FOE Aerie 2232. Read More	Herman A "Chief" Carter, 91 of Manchester, OH died Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, OH. He was born February 3, 1920 in Sprigg Township, Adams County, Ohio to the late Vance and Ethel (Hughes) Carter. Herman was a WWII Army Veteran and a lifetime member of the Matthews-Carter American Legion Post 325, the Richard L Dryden VFW Post 8287, the DAV and FOE Aerie 2232. He also served on the Adams County Honor Guard for many years. He retired after 34 years as a salesman for the Lang Furniture Company and then retired again after working as a security guard for the Daniels Construction Company at the Killen Station. Herman was a 60 year member of the Manchester Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for 23 years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Esta (Jenkins) Carter, 2 daughters, Clyta Carter and Deborah Carter, 3 granddaughters, Carmen Fite Arnold, Marla Jo Fite Bowling and Jamell Fite McChesney, 2 great granddaughters, Whitney Jo Bowling and Zoe Raye Arnold all of Manchester, OH, a sister, Mildred Adams and a brother, Marion Dick Carter, both of Aberdeen, OH. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Harmony Carter. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 11, 1PM at the Manchester United Methodist Church with Pastor Dale Little officiating, burial in Manchester Cemetery and graveside rites by Adams County Honor Guard. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 5-8PM at the Manchester United Methodist Church, 405 East Eighth Street.
