Description	:	Hermann Ellinghausen was less than one year old when his family immigrated to the United States in 1854. His parents, Johann Henry Ellinghausen and Margarethe Vogt, brought their young family of three sons to Bremen and boarded the bark, Edmund, with hopes for a new life in a new country. His parents, Johann Henry Ellinghausen and Margarethe Vogt, brought their young family of three sons to Bremen and boarded the bark, Edmund, with hopes for a new life in a new country. On the passenger list, Johann Henry Ellinghausen was listed as 30 or born in 1824. His occupation was listed as "maurer" or bricklayer. Margarethe was listed as 23. Their sons on the voyage were as follows: Johann H. - 6 Heinrich - 2 Hermann - 6 months The family's destination was St. Louis, Missouri, but they didn't stay there long according to the birthplaces of their next known children. The Ellinghausens had three more sons after settling in Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa. Henry - b. November 1855 Diedrich or Richard - b. 1856 Frederick - b. March 1857 It is assumed that the senior Johann Henry Ellinghausen died between the summer of 1856 and the end of 1859, since Margarethe remarried in 1860. (There are other explanations, but death records and other records weren't found as of 10 March 2021.) Margarethe's marriage to Mathias K. Stoltz on 6 January 1860 in Jackson County, Iowa, meant the family didn't have to relocate far. Her second marriage gave the Ellinghausen boys three more brothers and finally, a sister.
