He received his education at the Thayer County Country School and the Hebron Public Schools in Hebron. Herman was united in marriage to Arlene O. Mohr on January 2, 1945. They moved to Belleville, KS, in 1951. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belleville, KS. A 47 years member of the IOOF Lodge No. 135, Chester, NE, a Past Noble Grand and a Grand Lodge Degree, BPOE Elks Lodge No. 586 of Concordia, KS, Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge of Belleville, KS, Belleville Masonic Lodge No. 129 AF & AM for 12 years, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3281 of Belleville and served as Past Worthy President, and secretary for 18 years, past secretary of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, and was honored as a lifetime member, served as president and director of the Republic County Czech Club, and served on the Republic County Fair Amusement Committee for seven years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Jennie Baloun, two brothers, William and Henry, and one sister, Evelyn. He is survived by his wife, Arlene, Belleville; one sister, Mrs. Gus (Clara) Ray, Chester, nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services were held at ten o'clock a.m. Thursday, November 10, 1994 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, conducted by Rev. Paul Morris. Organist was Mrs. Eugene Waring and soloist, Charles Stafford. Casket bearers were Kenneth Ray, Stanley Mohr, Bernie Mohr, Vic Hann, Berwyn Petersen and Rodney Baloun. Honorary casket bearers were Larry Shulda, Don Sankey, Doug Parrack, Larry Tuma, Reginald Snapp, Wes Krischke and Rodger Larson. Interment was made in the Chester Cemetery, Chester, NE.
