Read More	The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, August 6, 1942; pg. 1 Herman Lemke Dies Suddenly Last Thursday The community was deeply shocked Thursday afternoon by the news of the sudden death of Herman Lemke which occured (sic) about 11 a.m. Mr. Lemke went to Hastings with one of the local business men, and as they drove up to the curb he slumped over dead. Prior to this the deceased was thought to enjoy excellent health. Cause of death was pronounced as a heart attack. Mr. Lemke was born at West Point, Iowa December 25, 1859 and reached the age of 73 years, 7 months and 5 days. At an early age he came with his parents to make their home on a farm 7 miles southwest of Lawrence, and at the age of 27 was married to Bernadine Himmelberg, after which he made his home 6 miles southwest of Lawrence until his retirement at Lawrence 24 years ago. One child, Chris was born to Mr. and Mrs Lemke with whom the wife and Mother survive. There also survive on grand-child, Mrs. Glenn Theer of Lawrence and 3 brothers and sisters. The brothers are John, Andy and Frank of Lawrence and the sisters are Mrs. John Benken of Lawrence and Mrs. Clem Benken of Mt. Clare. Three brothers Joe, Henry and Chris preceeded (sic) him to death, there also survive an uncle Richard Lemke of Effingham, Kansas. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church (sic) Lawrence Saturday morning conducted by the pastor Rev. Chas. Becker and interment was made at St. Staphens (sic) cemetery (sic). Pall bearers were Mark Lemke, Sylvester Burch, Herman Pollpeter, Matt Schneider, George Himmelberg and John Lemke, Jr. Out-of-town relatives and friends present for the final rites were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Burch and daughter Carol, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Burch and Mrs. Roy Kelly all of Glasco, Kansas, Mrs. Katherine Pollpeter and son Herman and John and Ed Pollpeter of West Point, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. John Odenrider and Mrs. Ben Talken of Leigh, Nebr.
