KATE DIRKS DIED SATURDAY CONDUCT SERVICES IN WAYNE ZION CHURCH Mrs. Kate Grace Zimmerman Dirks died at 1 p.m., April 6, at the University hospital at Iowa City. She had been ill since the later part of December, 1939,and had been at the University hospital over a month. Funeral services for Mrs. Dirks were held at Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'cloock. They were in charge of Rev. F.H. Kehren and burial was made at the Wayne cemetery. Mrs. Dirks was born in Strackholt, Germany, September 12,1886. She was a daughter of Gerhard Zimmerman and Gretchen (nee Trauernicht) Zimmerman. She emigrated to the United States with her parents in April, 1900, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. C. Mardorf, March 31, 1901. Her marriage to Harm Johnson Dirks occurred December 5, 1907 and was solemnized in Zion Lutheran Church of Wayne Township by Rev. Mardorf. Mrs. Dirks is surviving d by five children: Herman Dirks, Monticello; Mrs. Emma Tapken, Anamosa; and Edward, Lizzie and Alva at home. She is also survived by three brothers, Gerd, Mino and Ralph Zimmerman, and by three grandchildren. Mr. Dirks preceded her in death. The family has the sincere sympathy of a large group of friends in the passing of Mrs. Dirks.
