His obituary form Excelsior (Lancaster newspaper). Hiram Brown, son of Mary and John brown was born in Springfield, IN 1841 and departed this life March 8, 1927 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 16 days at his home near Lancaster, MO. At the age of 10 years, he moved to Schuyler Co. with his parents. When 19 years old he united with the Baptist Church at new Zion (no church there now) 1983-only a small cemetery. In 1861 he was united in marriage to Pauline (Purlina) Ellen Reed, dau. of Allen and Susan Reed. To this union were born twelve children. Four preceding him in death. He leaves to mourn: his bereaved companion, three brothers, John Brown of Unionville, MO, Caleb Brown of Glenwood, MO and B. Brown of Dewey , OK, and eight children as follows; Mrs. Lizzie Gosser of Glenwood, MO, Frank, Charley, John, Jim, Robert, Ollie and Harley Brown all of Lancaster. He leaves 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He was a devoted husband, kind and loving father and true and helpful neighbor, and will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were held at the family residence, southeast of Lancaster, on Wednesday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Thurman Andrews Pastor of the Baptist Church. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Lancaster, MO.
