Description	:	Hiram Culberson York is the seventh child of eleven children born to Nathaniel York, Sr. and his wife Mary Anne Culberson. Hiram age twenty seven was appointed as the executor of his fathers will in 1837. There was a lawsuit brought by the heirs of Nathaniel York for the improper distribution of the estate. Allegedly Hiram had developed into an alcoholic as supported by the apparent mismanagement of his fathers estate and the stress of the lawsuit by all the heirs of Nathaniel. Then at age twenty nine Hiram married in 1839 fifteen year old Maery 'Mary' Williams of Chatham County, North Carolina. No doubt Hiram had been devastated by the recent death of his wife age thirty two on 6 May 1856. Shortly Hiram age forty seven married a second time on 11 Jan 1857 to eighteen year old Lovey Ann Lavinia McCollum. After Hiram died in Jan 1860 Lovey Ann quickly remarried on 29 Mar 1860 to James W. Foster and later moved to Missouri. Apparently Hiram experienced continuing problems into 1860. The 1860 U S mortality schedule stated Hiram died of the "fits" in Jan 1860. Often this refers to delirium tremens a severe form of alcohol withdrawal that can cause confusion and death. The six children of Hiram and Mary are: 1. Isabella Jane York 2. Arbella Ann York 3.
