Description	:	Homer N. Horn, 87, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Primrose Retirement Communities in Grand Island. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Pastor Vern Olson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home with military rites by American Legion Post 151. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 151. Mr. Horn was born April 6, 1925, in Nance County to Homer N. and Lillian (Johnson) Horn. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Johnnita of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Karon Horn of Fullerton; two sisters, Darlene Bridger and Donna Mate, both of Central City. Also surviving include three granddaughters, Shannon Horn (Mark) of Warsaw, Ind., Tanya Horn of Willington, Colo., and Dani Horn (Steve) of South Boston, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. He grew up in the Cedar Valley area of Nance County attending country school. He graduated from Fullerton High School in 1943. Homer entered the U. S. Army, serving in the European Theater and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in 1946, and then began farming when he returned home. He married his high school sweetheart, Johnnita Babb, on Aug. 31, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kan. The couple farmed in the Fullerton area until 1999 when they moved into Fullerton, later moving to Grand Island in 2007. Homer served on the 4-H Council, Co-op Board, Rural Fire Board and Rural School Board. He was a member of the Pencil Collectors Society, and a life member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Disabled American Vets and Military Order of the Purple Heart. Homer and Johnnita enjoyed traveling and camping. He was an avid pen collector, liked playing cards and dominoes, and doing latch hook art. He loved his horses and cattle, class reunions and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earl, Ronald and Pete Horn; three sisters, Regina, Mayree and Katherine. Published in The Grand Island Independent on February 1, 2013
